We were engaged to undertake concreting, fencing and retaining wall construction at Little Mountain here on the Sunshine Coast. Our client wanted around 60m2 of concrete garden shed slab and paths running along the perimeter of the house. We organised a termite specialist to install the barrier to protect against white ants before commencing laying the slab. We had to install and renew some drainage pipes and drainage pit to ensure no water was left pooling in the yard under heavy rains.

The fence was to be installed on top of a steel reinforced block wall so as to make sure it would stand the test of time, and the harsh Sunshine Coast elements. We removed existing vegetation and dug and engineered a concrete footing reinforced with both 12mm and 16mm deformed bar, with starter bars rising up out of the footing to tie in the blockwork. The footing varied in depth and width depending on how high the blockwork was to be, and how much soil it needed to retain. Next, the blockwork was installed and reinforced with steel bars. Galvanised 75mm x 75mm fence posts were set into the blockwork and the wall was then core filled with around 2 cubic meters of concrete.

The 1.8 meter high (or 6ft in old terms) fence was constructed on top of the block wall. The galvanised posts have been set 600mm deep in concrete into the block wall. We used 100mm treated pine rails, treated pine palings and finished it all off with a 100mm capping timber. We always use galvanised nails to protect from any saline environment and for general longevity.
